Each week, the WCHA Blog will take a look at action from around the nation that doesn't involve WCHA teams.
The Michigan Wolverines continued their winning ways this weekend, taking a pair of games from Nebraska-Omaha on the road. The Maize and Blue were outshot in both games but got good performances in net from junior Billy Sauer to win 6-3 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Michigan returns home to take on Alaska and then heads to Lake Superior State for two games, so it's not unreasonable to think the Wolverines could be carrying a 10-game winning streak into the College Hockey Showcase.
The No. 1 team in all the land, the Miami Redhawks continued their winning ways by sweeping Northern Michigan by scores of 9-2 and 3-2. Senior Ryan Jones had six points on the weekend.
On Friday night, the Maine Black Bears skated to a 1-1 tie with the Boston College Eagles. The Eagles outshot Maine by a 27-20 margin. Maine's power play cost them on this night, going 0-7.
Notes: Speaking of Alaska, they were swept by the Michigan State Spartans by a pair of 3-1 scores ... Northeastern and New Hampshire split a home and home series, with each team winning on the other's home ice ... After being swept at Yost Ice Arena last weekend, Boston University bounced back with a pair of wins against Providence and UMass - Lowell.
